An integrated team under the Home Care Service of the Department of Palliative Medicine visits the patient’s home, 6 days a week (Saturday to Thursday) from 9 am to 3 pm, to provide palliative care as needed.
The main idea of this service is to improve the quality of life by caring for patients with incurable diseases and to make the family self-reliant in this patient care. Home care is primarily run by trained ‘palliative care assistant’, however experienced doctors and nurses help them in necessary cases.
This is a need-based service and is provided without any payment. So Home visits are arranged after considering and reviewing the patient's overall condition.
Home care service is provided to:
- Only registered patients of the Department of Palliative Medicine can receive care under this Home Care Service.
- Any patient with a life-limiting disease who cannot come to the hospital and who needs home care
- Patients living within 20 km of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University
- Long-term bedridden patients who need palliative care
